Hi there I’m Caroline Underhill an artist originally from North Wales but relocated in 2009 to Chirnside in the beautiful Scottish Borders.
I have always lived in the countryside which inspired my art from early on in life.
I work mainly in pastel which is a beautiful and ideal medium for my favourite subjects, animals. I also work in acrylic and oils for my sunsets and flowers in particular.
I was initially inspired by my love of dogs to begin painting pet portraits and have had continuous commissions for the last 30 years for pets and also child portraits. My clients are in Britain, Europe and America.
I have held regular exhibitions in the past 18 years with the National Trust and elsewhere and have run my own art classes for 10 years. I currently have two classes in Chirnside on a weekly basis.
In 2011 I held my first Art Home-stay holiday which was attended by two lovely Swedish ladies and was a great success.
I love teaching and receive great satisfaction from seeing people encouraged to create their work in their very own style. I like to see them develop and gain confidence in their own ability.
Jean says:
“I first met Caroline when we went to a tap class. She was hoping to start an art class and so I joined. I had no confidence in myself at all, but she made me believe that I could paint.
I bought one of Caroline’s paintings called ‘Sam’, which was of my sheep dog. It’s beautiful and I look at it every day and although he died years ago, I still feel that he is with me. I have five of her paintings now.
Although Caroline has moved to Scotland, I still go to art class and it is only up to her and the confidence she gave me.”
